Guild Wars 2 – Bringing Antialiasing to the game

First you will need to download Nvidia Inspector, written and developed by Orbmu2k, which is one of the most useful tools currently available for modifying your Nvidia drivers. Nvidia inspector is quite simple to use, though more helpful when you know which bits to use within the game’s profile setting. Scouring the internet kept leading me back to the same AA setting for Guild Wars 2: 0×00401240. This has been by far the worst bit setting for the games AA compatibility and somewhere along the path has gotten worse with the games updates.

So, what is the appropriate AA compatibility setting? You’ll be shocked to know, but somewhat not surprising, that it is “0×00401044“, which is the compatibility setting for L.A. Noire which also uses the Havoc graphics engine just like Guild Wars 2.

Guild Wars 2 Anti-Aliasing Settings:

  • Antialiasing compatibility:
    0×00401044 (L.A. Noire)
  • Antialiasing – Behavior Flags:
  • Antialiasing – Mode:
    Override any application settings
  • Antialiasing – Setting:
    4x [4x Multisampling]
  • Antialiasing – Transparency Supersampling:
    2x Supersampling (2X gives you more AA on objects such as grass, trees, etc., etc.)
  • Update:
    Please be sure to disable FXAA within the game after making these changes

Feel free to change any of the above five settings to your preferred preference as these settings are most ideal for best performance. Playing around with Sparse Grid Supersampling will give you best results with a cost of performance — however it does add blur to the games graphics, which most do not care for. In testing the Anti-Aliasing compatibility bit 0×00401044 has shown most positive to AA settings within the game.

GPU heat is increased with the above settings, more so when using Sparse Grid settings. It is important to increase your GPU’s fan speed to lower its heat as much as possible by using EVGA’s Precision X software. Heat will increase due to the GPU(s) as they are being tasked more. On average, before tweaking the antialiasing settings, the GPUs ran at around 30% – 45%. After adjusting the settings the GPUs run around 70% – 95%, depending what the in-game character is looking at.
