World’s first bamboo smartphone to launch in UK
Built from four year-old organic bamboo treated for durability, Scott Woodhouse, a student at Middlesex University, will soon see his masterpeice in UK stores. Woodhouse received backing from a technology entrepreneur after posting his concept online.
Woodhouse’s invention, Adzero, said, “Bamboo may seem like a strange material to use for a phone, but it’s actually extremely strong and very durable, perfect qualities for this kind of application.” The phone was originally set to be released in the Chinese market–but attracted much attention at the London Design Week convention.
Adzero is currently running Google’s Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich OS) in a prototype, though full specifications are not yet available but is said to have a larger screen than Apple’s iPhone 4s and weighing half that. Adzero is expected to hit stores late this year, but no pricing has been released.
Woodhouse told Inquirer, “AD will have selected independent retailers stocking the handset. These will be boutiques and/or specialist shops. We are also happy to discuss other possible market routes, but these are our focus at the moment.”
