Tera Online: A quick look and screen shots
Last weekend marked the last closed beta for Tera Online and we had an opportunity to grab some screen shots of our Elin character we tried out. Graphic wise the game is excellent in every aspect. Unfortunately the Anti-aliasing is set to 1X within the .ini configuration files — though we did use an alternative to boost them up to AA 8x later without any performance hit.
From a quick personal experience I give the game an 8/10, but at its early stage, along with being Beta, that should be taken with a grain of salt. En Masse’s choice of going with a ‘no-target’ combat system does present a more unique play style, and one we’re not used to. Several times I found myself clicking my “target nearest mob” key but quickly realized “this isn’t your standard MMO, Scott”.
Tera is a very unique game for its combat system alone and fans of Aion will quickly find the game enjoyable from a graphical standpoint. NCsoft, Korean based MMORPG game developer, has gone after En Masse several times claiming its developers (which some were former NCsoft developers) stole code from the company. That has since been settled, and the game is soon to release without massive court battles.
PVP players will also be watching their back at every angle as Tera is “every man for himself” based game. This means your friend of the same race can walk right up and crush you into the ground — so be prepared for some PVP action while out questing/harvesting/grinding. (There are no separate factions.)
