TERA fans protesting new EU “12+” censorship
Fans of the new upcoming MMORPG TERA have brought out virtual picket signs in protest against several changes made to the European version. Normally fans would take to the forums and rage-out on class changes, but this protest has nothing to do with the games mechanics — just the censorship.
Publisher Frogster has made adjustments to the games gore level, weapon blood spatters, when attacking a player or mob to the European version while the US version still contains the full-blown gore. TERA US version has a Mature rating by ESRB, while the EU version received a 12+ rating by PEGI. Fans of the game took to the forums over the changes made and are vowing to cancel pre-orders or play on US servers only.
“We, as members of the Tera community, feel that this time you have crossed the line. The community was patient for a very, very long time with your incompetence and childish games. You have played with the boundries of how much the community can take. Count in all the false information that was given to us” the petition reads.”
TERA, by all means, is not your typical MMORPG. Its combat system allows players to use real strategy when fighting mobs and players. But the decision came later to lock the ‘slider bar’ in the games options menu to a fixed value for blood spatters.
“We’re sorry to inform you about this now and not when the OBT patch notes were released, but the situation occurred with the latest additions to Tera and this [sic] are the reason why we needed to remove the slider for the blood factor and set it to a fixed value.“ lead community manager Raven explained.
Protest or not, it sounds like the 12+ rating will launch as scheduled.
