Tech21 claims new Impact Shield makes iPhone 5 bulletproof

Tech21 has announced its new screen protection technology for the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 can make your smartphone . . . bulletproof (I’ll have to see that with my own two eyes first).

The company is mostly known for its “Impactology” and “orange goo“, making smartphone devices near indestructible — for the most part. Today at CES Tech21 has shown off its latest technology with its bulletproof “Impact Shield” protection.

“The Tech21 R&D team spent the last 2 years searching for materials that could offer exceptional protection. Finally they found a polymer which is normally used in military grade bullet proof glass.” says Tech21.

“The team worked extensively to manipulate this highly complex material until it could be made thin enough to protect a mobile device screen without losing its protection capabilities. The unique layers within the Impact Shield absorb the impact force if the device is dropped face down on to the screen, it is the only screen film in the world which allows real impact protection for your smartphones and tablets.”

Bulletproof smartphone protection seems a bit much, then again we’re all guilty of mishandling our phones improperly at times (raises hand). The Impact Shield can even heal over time if taken a hard enough bump from a foreign object nibs off at it. Tech21′s Impact Shield will hit the shelves around the first quarter of 2013 but pricing is not yet available from the company.
