SWTOR servers go down in prep for launch for December 20, 2011
As the servers go down, our anxiety goes up! But that’s not saying they won’t be back up. Pre-launch fans have been enjoying the non-beta version of the game for days now, and like the fans – websites have been applauding the game’s design and workmanship across the web.
After midnight, fans might also see a new patch with updates to the UI (User Interface) allowing users move features around on the screen to the players preferences–although there has been no confirmation as to whether that patch will come out tonight or on Wednesday.
It is possible that SWTOR may be the biggest game to hit the gaming market against the ‘other’ giant out there – but we’ll refrain from those accusations for your sake, and ours, and let time do the telling. That said, let’s get ready for Star Wars: The Old Republic! (servers will be back up at midnight, and the game officially live)
The servers and SWTOR.com are currently unavailable while we perform scheduled maintenance. We expect the services to be available again tonight at 11PM CST (9PM PST /(12/20) 12AM EST/(12/20) 5AM GMT/(12/20) 6AM CET) Please check the Forums or the official SWTOR Twitter apge for more information and updates. To check the status of your server, visit the Server Status page.
Welcome Message from Ray Muzyka & Greg Zeschuk
This is a big day for us; we are launching Star Wars: The Old Republic, BioWares’ largest and most ambitious project to date, and we’re very proud that you’ve been able to join us. It’s an honor to be able to share this game with you.
A huge team of talented, passionate people at BioWare, Electronic Arts, Lucas Arts as well as many other partners all over the world poured their hearts and souls into this game. We want to thank every single one of them for being part of the team that developed this game; it’s a monumental accomplishment. Another group of people that we depended upon was you, the players. We had hundreds of thousands of players spend millions upon millions of hours beta testing this game. Without you we would have never been able to build it; thank you for your contribution. This game is yours just as much as it is ours.
And finally we want to emphasize that this is just the beginning of a very long journey together. The game is launched, but it’s not done; it will probably never be done as we’re committed to working on Star Wars: The Old Republic in order to keep improving it and delivering exemplary service to you, the customer. It’s going to be a great ride.
Finally, we can only think of one appropriate way to sign off on this auspicious occasion:
May the Force be with you!
Ray Muzyka & Greg Zeschuk
