StarTech CB511WB 11Mbit CardbusOne of the biggest concerns about adding devices to laptops is power consumption. Adding several devices will cut battery life. The voltage used by the StarTech 11Mbit card is 3.3v, which isn’t a lot when think about it. However, its power can be of some concern if you’re running your laptop on battery power with a few other devices plugged in. In general, however, most users do not plug in tons of devices when on battery alone. The laptop we’re using has a battery life of 3 hours–pretty well sufficient for most general uses.

Wireless connections can be very insecure if one doesn’t take the proper steps. Plus, the source itself must also be secure. The StarTech 11Mbit can do either 64bit or 128bit encryption connection. Users who move around a lot–coffee shop, home, work–should ensure that their virus software is up to date, along with any Windows security patches. Security breaches can be devastating, so protect yourself in several ways.
