Nvidia releases Geforce GTX 650 Ti GPU based on Kepler architecture

Nvidia has released its Geforce GTX 650 Ti video card based on its Kepler architecture.

Nvidia has been steadily rolling out its much vaunted Kepler GPU architecture following its successful launch of the Geforce GTX 680 earlier this year. Now the firm has brought out the £120 Geforce GTX 650 Ti in time for the lucrative Christmas sales period.

Nvidia’s Geforce GTX 650 Ti, codenamed GK106, sports 768 cores that run at 928MHz, though unlike other Kepler based models in Nvidia’s range it lacks a “boost clock” frequency. Nevertheless, the company has kept the 1GB frame buffer from the non-Ti branded cards but increased its bandwidth to 86.4GB/s.

Nvidia has managed to get away with giving the 110W TDP Geforce GTX 650 Ti a single 6-pin power connector and has adorned the back panel with two dual-link DVI outputs and one HDMI output.

According to Nvidia, Geforce GTX 650 Ti video cards are available on store shelves now, with one of its high-profile board vendors, EVGA announcing four versions, two of which have 2GB of VRAM.

Nvidia has finally managed to trickle its Kepler architecture down to the mainstream in order to compete with AMD’s Radeon HD 7000 series video cards. The firm is pitching its Geforce GTX 650 Ti card as a replacement for the very old Geforce 9600 GT, but in truth it could become the video card that gamers choose when they want to go beyond the on-die GPUs in recent AMD and Intel processors.
