Mo-Zilla workin’ in yo-Metro (Firfox for Windows 8 Metro prototype)
In early stages the group had struggled, somewhat, getting Firefox working in the Windows 8 Metro style. Bondy, however, does not “consider that 2012 Q2 goal met yet, we still have some open design questions, and a ton of platform integration work to do.” Firfox’s prototype is in a form based on the Fennec XUL code, which was the same code used on the Android but changed its Native UI on Android for “startup performance reasons.” Luckily they have not experience any of the same types of startup performances they had on the Android on Windows 8.
Metro snap is also working which allow users to snap other Metro apps to the right or left of Firefox and continue surfing the web. Also working is the HTML file input controls which are tied up to the Metro file picker allowing for opening one or more files and saving them in Metro.
“We also implemented the Windows 8 search contract, you can use the Search Charm from any screen on Windows 8.” said Bondy on his blog. “We also implemented the Windows 8 share contract, you can use the Share Charm from any Firefox page to share that page to another application. Once you select the Share Charm it will list the applications you can share to, for example: Mail, Twitter, or Facebook.” he continued.
