Microsoft: Windows 8 preview this month

Mark your calendars for February 29, as Microsoft readies the public unveiling of its newest operating system: Windows 8. While the software giant has not said anything specific yet, the event is likely to launch its public beta version of Windows 8. With such news it is possible the full version of Windows 8 to release later this year.

Invitations of the preview launch has been seen by V3 and will take place in Barcelona during the Mobil World Congress (MWC). Also expected is a large patch to Windows 7 for tablets. Windows 8 has been designed for tablets as well as PCs and laptops accompanying a Metro style interface and integrated app store similar to the Windows Phone 7 devices.

The arrival of Windows 8 will certainly mark a new direction for the company’s operating system strategy by coupling portable devices along with it. It will also make heavy use of web-based applications and services via its new Metro system. Predictions by analysts believe the new hybrid interface will be a success with consumers and businesses looking to transition to tablets, according to a recent study by iYogi.
