Megaupload Data Could Be Erased This Week
Fate of that data is in limbo as the federal officials have completed their review of the file sharing site Megaupload. This means legitimate users who had legitimate files on the site may see their files deleted as soon as this week.
With 1 billion users and 50 million daily users, many have wondered what would become of their data after the site’s seizure earlier this month. Ira Tothken, attorney for Megaupload, says that 50 million customers could lose their files — but hopes that a deal can be made to return that data to customers, and later said he hopes to use some of the data in Megaupload’s defense.
“We’re cautiously optimistic at this point that because the United States, as well as Megaupload, should have a common desire to protect consumers, that this type of agreement will get done,” he said.
