Logitech G13 Advanced Gameboard
Having an analog joystick makes more sense to me because it gives the thumb more to do and doesn’t take up space. It is well placed and doesn’t stress the thumb during long sessions of use. It feels very similar to joysticks on other game controls and has soft rubber gently slanted downward so it doesn’t irritate your thumb.
The buttons are wide, well spaced and don’t feel squished. One of the main concerns I had about buying this was whether my hand would be too big or too small. My hand is about 7¼ in. long, and 3¼ in. wide and it feels very natural. The rubber palm rest is comfortable and keeps my hand from sliding around. It contours to the shape of the hand quit well and doesn’t stress the joints or muscle with unnatural positioning, even during many, many hours of use.
Let there be light
The color changeable back-lighting is well illuminated and easily adjustable to an on or off state. It has 16 pre-set colors to choose from or you can choose from any color off of the custom color pallet. The built-in LCD panel is very easy to read and displays information depending on what program is running.
For example, when running games, such things as player rank, server IP, scores, health or ammunition status or if you’re running a music player or watching a movie, information of the song and movie title will display. The display also has a clock and date display, CPU and Ram performance monitor, stopwatch & timer, email/RSS reader and a list of your default and custom program profiles. You can switch between these displays at any time. The G13 has built in memory that saves your profiles for when you need to go mobile.
With the LCD manager software you can enable or disable what programs or what display you want the G13 to show, adjust and configure the
display brightness and contrast and adjust settings for updates. The G-series key profiler window allows you to assign key binds, create and manage macros or disable any of the 25 buttons, and change the background illumination color.
I had a really hard time trying to find anything that needs improvement with the G13 but if I was going to nit-pick I would like to see a few bumps like on the F and J keys instead of the rubber stickers. The Stickers don’t stick very well, they slide around, and they get the keys sticky. Also it would make it a bit easier to have the bottom three buttons a little lower so they could be pressed with the middle part of the hand.
The G13 Gamepad is a wonderful tool for gamers and non-gamers alike. I’ve used it for other applications like Photoshop but its abilities best come into effect when playing games. Logitech doesn’t fail to impress with the quality and craftsmanship of the G13. My feeling is its one of the top competitors when it comes to gamepads.
