Hulu Plus grows to 2 million subscribers
Hulu Plus offers viewers the ability to stream a wide range of television programs and movies on connected devices from iPads to game consoles. Though not all of its programs are available to such devices, the free service allows viewers to watch all available shows on the PC. Hulu, founded in March 2007, offered Hulu Plus in 2011 at $12.99 and later dropped the subscription fee to $7.99 after launching the iPad/iPhone app on Apple’s App Store — that is when users complained about the non-commercial free subscription.
Hulu will launch its presentation this Thursday in New York in hopes of pitching its success to future potential advertisers (yay more commercials!). While Hulu does not offer same-day TV programming, it does offer large network programs one day later — which is possibly the reason for the company’s success for those with busy life schedules.
2011 ended with 1.5 mil Hulu Plus subscribers, and quickly picked up another 500,000 in Q1 this year. One has to wonder if the deal that fell through with Netflix (the Starz contract that ended in March, 2012) had something to do with it. Possible, or that our busy lifestyles + Hulu Plus = watch when we want.
