EtherDesigns Cantenna

So there you have it; a few simple uses, which barely touches the surface, of EtherDesigns cantennas. Laptops are another growing application of wireless. The 5″ Cantenna from EtherDesigns is small and compact, making it a great traveling companion for a quick boost for your wireless laptop.

Laptop wireless features have been on the rise in the past year, and are sweeping the nation, providing portability for those on the run. But connection problems in environments with many obstacles while out in the town can slow or kill your speed, which is where cantennas come in handy. (Although you might look like a police officer with a radar gun if you’re in your car.)

Connecting the Cantenna is, as I’ve mentioned, very easy. However, when ordering your Cantenna, be sure you know what type of adapter your wireless network card has. Newer wireless routers and network cards can now support 54Mbps and use a different type.

It mostly depends on the manufacturer of the product. Most Linksys devices use a RP-TNC connector. Our cable is an N-Male (large connector) to RP-SMA (small connector) which most 54g wireless products, SMA type, are equipped with.

WiFi Benchmarking

The diagram above shows some interesting scores between the 5″ and 10″ EtherDesigns Cantenna’s. Because the 5″ Cantenna is able to scan at a wider range, due to its design, it is able to grab more of the signal coming from the router around any obstacles. The 10″ Cantenna is meant for long distances with a narrower scan that is more focused, to boost the signal further. Thus, using a 5″ Cantenna is ideal for the current scenario.

The use of a 10″ Cantenna for longer distances, with fewer obstacles in place, such as down a street. EtherDesigns 10″ Cantennas are being used in for distances of up to a mile away. As of right now, we’re not able to get this setup for testing, but we will put the 10″ Cantenna through some amazing tests here soon.

ipKonfig Editors ChoiceProfessionally made and delivered with quality in mind, EtherDesigns cantennas are a very nice addition to your wireless world. They’re small and durable to stand up to outside weather, and truly provide a boost over long distance. Cantennas in general are very easy to install indoors, no tools required. Outside installations will need a bit more attention, but not much. EtherDesigns provides all the necessities to get you up and going.

Wireless is driving the market to new heights for the consumer, and many are taking advantage of its technology. As time goes on, you can rest assure that faster speeds will become available on the market. But with that speed you also have to consider distance, which can render you back to the same speeds you had before your upgrade. EtherDesigns Cantenna’s are the cure for the equation.

Last, EtherDesigns is a fun company to deal with. My personal and business experience with EtherDesigns was above and beyond professional, and my business was well accepted. Alan provided all the help I needed, and any of those odd questions I had, were answered promptly and professionally.
