Apple releases its new iTunes 11

Apple released the latest version of its iTunes desktop application on Thursday, which it claims is the best version yet.

Bumping iTunes to version 11, the update is available to download for both PC and Mac, albeit one month later than originally expected. This apparently was because Apple “needed extra time to get it right”.

iTunes 11 brings some new features to the program, including a cleaner and simpler user interface and a completely redesigned Store front. This redesign sees iTunes brought more into line with Apple’s iPhone and iPad iTunes apps, as content is now displayed horizontally across the window.

Another new feature is artist pages, where musicians can share stuff like photos and tour dates, and Apple has also added Facebook integration into the store and the option to preview tracks while browsing.

“We created iTunes because we love music and we’re going back to our roots with an incredibly clean design that keeps your music at the forefront,” said Eddy Cue, Apple SVP of internet software and services.

“The new iCloud works seamlessly with iCloud, always keeping your entire library at your fingertips, and we’re adding great new features that make listening to your music more fun.”
