AMD launches its Firepro W600 GPU

AMD has launched its Firepro W600 graphics card for multi-monitor setups and digital signage firms.

AMD’s Firepro graphics cards are pitched to workstation and digital signage firms looking to drive multiple displays. The firm’s Firepro W600 is squarely aimed at the digital signage market with a single-slot card offering support for six displays.

AMD said the GPU in its Firepro W600 is based on its current generation Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture fabbed at 28nm. The company didn’t go into much detail on clock speeds but said the board will have 2GB of GDDR5 memory.

Although AMD did line up a customer to say its Firepro W600 card can handle 3D video, the truth is that this card is designed to drive as many displays as possible. The firm said it has projection overlay allowing one seamless image to be displayed across multiple displays and supporting two high-definition video streams through its Unified Video Decoder.

With AMD launching its 28nm GCN architecture throughout its desktop range, the firm is now looking at its low-volume workstation and commercial parts. AMD’s GCN architecture fabbed on TSMC’s 28nm process node has a number of power saving features that are particularly desirable in the digital signage market.

AMD said its Firepro W600 graphics card is available now.
